JORDAN

x

Paris Saint Germain

After months of speculation and rumors, in September of 2018 Paris Saint Germain became the first elite club to have kits produced by a non footballing brand. The Jordan x PSG collaboration included not one, but two special edition match kits, which the club wore exclusively in the Champions League. And to see how well received the whole collaboration was, you only have to look at the demand for the product, which sold out on the PSG website within the first day of its release.

From its inception it became instantly clear that PSG x Jordan was more than just a PR stunt; it represented the dawn of a new age for both football and basketball culture, and its success opened up a market to clubs using more streetwear/fashion labels as kit producers.

Crest

The PSG crest adorns the left side of the kit. The patch is a monochrome version of the usual one, keeping with the clean black & white look of the entire collection.

Logo

The Jordan logo appears opposite the crest to mark the collaboration between the two brands. Jordan became the first ever kit maker to come from another sport.

Stripe

The vertical line down the middle of the kit is pulled from the PSG home jersey, but with a new texture and monochrome style that ties it into the rest of the collection.

On the

Pitch—

The Jordan Brand launched their debut collaborative collection with PSG in September 2018. The first drop featured two co-branded football kits in white & black, and it was the latter which debuted at Anfield in the Champions League.

The Parisians suffered a defeat in their darks before switching into the white Jordan kit for the return fixture in Paris. Goals from Juan Bernat and Neymar jump started the Jumpman movement on pitch to hand the Parisians a 2-1 win.

Off the

Pitch—

The PSG x Jordan crossover introduced the world of football to the concept of fashion based collaborations, and without it there certainly would’ve been no Juventus x Palace or even Adidas x Humanrace. It dove headfirst into a space that had never previously been explored, offering up the sight of NBA stars arriving for games in the latest football shirts.

The Jordan x PSG partnership ushered in a new era of cultural crossover in soccer that would inspire a new wave of innovative approaches to jersey design. The unprecedented collaboration between PSG and Jordan – now ploughing through its third season – has become one of the premium drops on the calendar, elevating in status with every passing campaign. What started as an all-out hype event has fast become a well accepted and expected presentation of pure fire, crossing cultures seamlessly as it brings two separate worlds together.
